I need a good 2-person Backpacking tent.?

I want a tent to weigh less then 4.8 pounds. I need one not to collect condensation. And easy setup. I am willing to pay $250, but i would prefer $150.

I would prefer free but what can you do. Anyway going ultra light is going to cost you as only the higher end tents are getting the weight down into that ball park. The REI quarter dome is a very popular and well made tent. Comes in at $270 us. Quite often you can get these at reduced prices when REI sells off the rental equipment. That’s how I got mine paid $70. for it.

The Eureka Zeus comes in at $160.us but doesn’t breath as well and the floor is too thin

The kelty teton 2 comes in at $130.us but the wear and tear factors rate low on this tent.

The choices are many so shop around MY favorite is the REI quarter dome.

I like the MSR Hubba Hubba. Great durable tent, only weighs 4 pounds.

Im looking for a backpacking tent. Any pointers on what brand to get? ?

I am a high school student and i attend a program in which i do 3-8 day backpacks, ice climbing, rock climbing, mountain biking, White water rafting sea kyacking, and alot of other stuff. Its called Adventure Treks. By far the most amazing experiance of my life. Anyway sorry. I want a 2 person backpacking tent so i can backpack with a buddy on my own. Im willing to spend mabye $400 or a little more tops. Anyone know a good brand and good model and if you have it, tell me how you like it and does it last? I was looking and i like alot of mountain hardware and sierra designs tents. I want it to be very light if possible. Under 5 lbs. Thanks in advance!

I have Sierra Designs, friends have Mountain Hardware and North Face.
Good tents, a few years old so designs have changed.
Take a look at REI and Campmor – closeouts especially.
REI makes a pretty good tent too. My son has Walrus that I really like but I think they have gone out of business.
North Face Tadpole design is classic and has been around for 20+ years by different companies and names.
By the way, we all use tarps now – year round.

Mountain Backpacking: Tent or Tarp?

I’d rather not buy a new tent at the moment, should I haul in my rather lightweight 2 person Kelty Streamside tent or bring the heavier, warmer mummy bag and sleep under a tarp? Backpacking in mountains, Wyoming, for 5-7 days. Light snow in summer. But I’m from the north, can deal with it. Bag rated at -35.
Yeah, I’ve got a few different bags. The warmest is that extreme weather, military surplus bag. I’ve got a nice, light 15 or 20 degree mummy-style. I seem to be missing my nicer mummy bag.
Wow, didn’t realize the tent was that heavy… I may check around some surplus shops and craigslist, see what I can find. Or just spend the 60 bucks on a small Eureka.

Since the Kelty Steamside weights in at 6 pound 3 ounces, I think I would opt for the tarp and a warmer bag. That is a lot of weight for a 2 person backpacking tent.

What tent and sleeping bag would you suggest for ultralite backpacking?

I’m looking for a tent that I can take backpacking with me and it needs to be fairly light, same with the sleeping bag. Also, the price needs to be fairly affordable. About £150 for the tent and the same for the sleeping bag.
