you should try upper mary lake and ashurst lake. not sure where at in arizona your going but these lakes are fairly close to flagstaff.. and thats a fun place to go. if you go to these lakes i highly recommend going to sunset crater volcano national monument. its pretty sweet cause all the sand is black. but yea have fun this summer.. don’t forget sunscreen

http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/recreation/mormon_lake/ashurst-camp.shtml

http://www.nps.gov/sucr

Whenever you get home, make sure to wash all of your clothes, laundry, shoes, tents and other cotton supplies you took with you in the woods. There are many insects and other ants in the woods that should be left in nature and not brought home. Just drop the clothes down the laundry chute door.

I’m looking for a great place to take my young boys camping in North Georgia. I’d like to have a secluded, private tent site on or very near a trout stream or river. I’d prefer potable water be on-site, but can bring water. Would be great if there are short trails that run along the river or stream so the kids can splash around or catch a fish.

If it’s trout you are fishing for I would wait for the weather to cool down some. Trout thrive in the cooler weather. September and on are good months to fish. That being said…

Tallulah River, Tate Branch and Sandy Bottom Campgrounds are all good campgrounds. They are all on the Tallulah River banks just outside of Clayton, GA.

http://www.fs.fed.us/conf/camping.htm

Cherry Hill Recreation Area is a nice little campground. It’s just over the boarder in SC, and only a 10 minute drive to the Chattooga River Bridge past Burrell’s Ford Campground. There is parking at the bridge and trails that lead down to the river.

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/fms/rec/cherryhi…

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/fms/rec/windings…

Burrell’s Ford is indeed a beautiful camping area, and is nice and secluded. You would need to have the ability to hike in with all your equipment, but is well worth the trek. If I remember correctly it’s about 1/3 mile down to the campsites. If you veer right as you get to the bottom of the road there is a campsite right next to the river, on the right side of the trail.

On the night of Tuesday 22nd September Sydney experienced a wind and dust storm like no other in history with flash lightning, up to 9mm of pouring rain, and howling winds gusting up to 95 km per hour measured by the Buro of Meteorology. By 5am on Wednesday morning, Sydney was engulfed in orange dust, blown by 95 km per hour winds carrying thousands of tons of the fine dust from outback Australia, leaving the whole city sky with an eerie orange glow. The airport was closed, Sydney Ferries were shut down and city buildings, homes and cars were covered in orange dust, the likes of which had never been experienced before.

The crazy people at Kangaroo Tent City chose to go camping in this storm on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour, to test the performance of various tents in extreme conditions. 86 tents were set up and tested. Dome tents by Coleman, Black Wolf, Diamantina and Roman. Canvas tents by Diamantina and Campmor. After the storm was over on Wednesday afternoon, an inspection of all 86 tents revealed only 3 tents had broken poles from the storm. 75 of these tents were the Campmor Hennie Canvas Dome Tent and not one of these tents had any damage. Every tent was still standing. This video footage was taken at 8am on Wednesday morning, whilst the winds were still blowing at more than 50km per hour, and as you can see, every tent is still up. An amazing result given the ferocity of the winds, and the fact that Cockatoo Island camping ground is in a highly exposed location, where the westerly winds roar down Parramatta River.

Kangaroo Tent City chose to create this crazy test, and the results prove Kangaroo Tent City go to extreme measures to prove they have some of the best quality tents in the world. Kangaroo Tent City are Australias camping experts. For more information visit www.kangarootentcity.com.au.

We are going away for four days. We are tent camping, what are some ideas for dinners that we can make over a camp fire?

are you bringing a pot?
i suggest bringing two pots… and two lids…
If your not bringing a pot disregard my answer…
and if your not camping by a river or stream, then you need to bring your own water.

If your bringing a pot, and your camping by a stream or river, you could make spaghetti and sauce. [bring sauce in a PLASTIC container]

You could also bring little prepackaged things like top ramen, and cup of noodle [or cup of soup...i dont remember]

You could bring preseasoned rice containers[theyre in boxes], and beans, and cook that over the fire. Bring some dried meat as well[jerky].

You can bring hard sausages, like salami, and any cheese in wax, crusty bread [not sliced] , and canned or jarred olives.

Fresh fruits and veggies are always fun, bring carrots, onions, broccoli, bell peppers, and a bag of white rice, and use one pan to cook the rice, and one to sautee the veggies. bring along some teriyaki sauce [bottles of course] and you have some delicious stir fry!
You should have this meal the first night, so it doesnt go bad [unless your bringing a cooler of course]

oatmeal and fruit [apples, oranges/grapefruit...things that dont spoil easily] are a good breakfast. bring cinnamon if you want to make things more tasty!

canned fruit works just as well.

If your going to be fishing, bring some lemons and herbs, and some foil [optional] and then some extra veggies. You can steam the veggies with the foil, [poke hole in foil and wrap around top of pan. place veggies on top of foil. make sure pan is filled with water first though!] and also wrap the fish in the foil with some lemon and herbs and throw it on the fire.
yum!

If your bringing spices, bring cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, lemons, and allspice, add to pot, add a little water, and chop up the apples.
simmer apples in the mixture until tender, enjoy with oatmeal for breakfast, or alone!

If your bringing a cooler, You can make almost ANYTHING!!! please respond if your bringing a cooler and i will give you plenty more things to make

I’m considering Highlands Hammock and Ocala for tent camping for a group of us for my birthday. Assuming we don’t want primitive sites, which site #’s are the best for tent camping (privacy/location) for these parks or others in central or south florida?

If you REALLY want something nice, you might want to consider Fort DeSoto County Park in southern Pinellas County (Tampa Bay area).

Fort DeSoto’s North Beach was named the #1 Beach in the U.S. (Hawaii included) in 2005! It sits on the Gulf, at the mouth of Tampa Bay!

You can go to http://www.fortdesoto.com/servlets/Page/camping for more info and to make reservations.
