How popular is "nude hiking and camping?"?

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

I have noticed on the web some talk about "nude hiking or nude camping." Is this popular? And where do you go for this activity. I have seen couples at the beach nude. They camp out on the beach in tents. They come out of their tent and stay "au natural" for the day, just soaking up sunshine!

With all the perils one encounters while camping and hiking, such as mosquitos, poison ivy, prickles, poison oak, stinging nettle, and other bug bites, I would assume that it’s not very popular.

A friend and I want to spend a week hiking next year – any tips?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Myself and a friend, in order to raise money for charity, want to go on a 7-day "live off the land" style hike in England. Does anyone have any informative websites on doing this? We want to find a route and go from one end to the other, but we need somewhere where we can just pitch our tents wherever, we don’t want a campsite or somewhere "touristy" – any suggestions/tips/links?

Thanks a bunch.

It’s great that you want to raise money for charity, but I would strongly advise against just pitching your tents anywhere. You must think about your safety.

You specifically say you don’t want to stay on camp sites or in tourist areas. I would suggest you have a look at publications which list farms/farmhouses which do bed and breakfast. The people who run them might be happy for you to pitch your tents on their land because you’re walking for charity.

WH Smith sell these books, or you can pick up booklets from Tourist Information offices. If you know your route, you could then contact a few farmhouse owners and see if they’re willing to help you.
