{Over the last 15 years|Over a decade ago|Since the last decade|Since more than a decade ago|Over the last decade} there has been a {consistent|steady} {increase|rise} in new backpacking tent designs. The {huge range of choices|range of choices is overwhelming and that|amount of choice} makes it confusing {initially|at first} but {life has been much easier since it was sorted|conveniently they can easily be categorized|it can better be understood by categorizing them} in two ways.%KEYWORDSTART1%s {are sorted by|can be sorted by|are categorized as first their by} function {and|followed} by structure. {As an example|For example,|An example of this is} hiking tents being {sorted|divided|categorized|identified} by season where tents are either 4-season or 3-season tents. {These|This} can then be further {sorted|divided|categorized} by the number of {bodies|people} it can {hold|fit}.{The expression “3-man” soon turned to “3-person” and “4-man” to “4-person”|The “3-man” and “4-man” tent came to be known as “3-person” and “4-person”} and even to solo, duo, trio, quartet and so on. But this {means that there is need for a more|demands a much more} cynical way of looking at the {tags|description}.This is because what {some manufacturers|some producers|some makers|manufacturers} mean by a 3-man hiking tent is a tent that can accommodate 3 small human bodies laid out like corpses. If it were live breathing people the space would be too small. If you were {hiking solo|hiking alone|to hike solo}, {some people prefer|it’s better} to carry a 2-man tent so that you can also {keep|store} your camping gear and yet {provide enough comfort and space|be comfortable and spacious enough} for you to cook {when you have no choice|if you really have to}. It’s {so much more comfortable|better} to be {stuck|confined} in a 2-person tent for days in a {blizzard|snowstorm} than to be {stuck|confined} in a small bivouac sack.backpacking equipment and cooking. {If your tent is not well ventilated, don’t cook inside your tent|Cooking in your tent without ventilation is not a recommended practice}. It can even spell death for you. Be sure the hiking tent is well ventilated when you cook in it. hiking tents that {compensate|allow} for such matters are tagged as “2-plus”, “3-plus” and so on.Going back to take the example of “4-season” hiking tent models we see that they are designs that could {do well in|withstand} the {worst|baddest|heaviest} snow and rain and strong winds. save weight by removing some parts of the tent including poles, sections and zip-out roof panel. However, most {new|modern} {camping|hiking|backpacking} tents are 3-season tents that do well in all {types of weather|seasons} except for the worst of winter. The lightweight version is {great|sufficient|more suited} for {hiking|camping|backpacking} in late spring and early fall also known as the 2-season hiking tent.{Remember|Keep in mind|Note} that this type of categorization is based on estimations of the average {guy|person}. The problem is not everyone has the same {amount of body insulation|body mass|tolerance comfort|tolerance for comfort}. .
